ANZ promotes Emma Gray to new group executive data role
Australian bank ANZ has announced the appointment of Emma Gray to the newly created role of group executive for data and automation.
Gray, who is currently chief data officer at the lender, has played a central role in its digital and data strategies.
In her expanded role Gray will continue to “lead the transformation of the strategic use of data”, as well as create “new customer insights” and drive automation to “ultimately improve customer experience.”
Prior to joining ANZ in 2016, Gray spent three years at Woolworths where she most recently served as chief loyalty and data officer.
Before that she was a partner at Bain & Company, having worked across the United States, Europe and Australia for 15 years.
Shayne Elliott, ANZ CEO, says that the effective use of data will be crucial to the bank’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
He adds: “Emma is an experienced international executive with significant experience in data and customer insights and the creation of this new group executive role recognises the critical role of data, insights and automation has in the continued digital transformation of ANZ.”
The appointment has been effective as of 1 May 2020. Gray will report to Maile Carnegie, the group executive for digital and Australia transformation.
