BHD Leon picks Temenos Transact to power geographic expansion
Dominican bank BHD Leon has selected Temenos Transact as its new digital banking platform, part of a strategy of expansion in its home region.
The implementation will be conducted in two phases, migrating business lines across retail, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), corporate and wealth management sectors from a legacy system to Temenos. It is understood on the way out is Fiserv’s Signature platform.
BHD Leon aims to grow its customer base of 1.5 million by expanding in other countries in the region, including in Panama.
The lender also aims to expand its market share in underbanked populations by rolling out new products, such as credit and savings offerings.
“We are committed to being the benchmark for banks in the Dominican Republic,” says Steven Puig, president of BHD Leon.
“Our vision for digital transformation required a partner with open technology, fast time to market, and the ability to scale.”
Puig adds that the Temenos technology will drive “powerful change” as the bank seeks to support more customers and expand its business.

BHD Leon, also known as Banco León, was founded from the merger between Banco Profesional and Banco Nacional de Credito.
Enrique Ramos O’Reilly, managing director for Latin America and the Caribbean, says that digital transformation is “imperative for banks to address immediate priorities and build a sustainable business in the future.”
He adds: “BHD Leon’s new digital banking platform will enable the bank to offer superior banking experiences and innovative services rapidly, at the pace of market demand.”
