Solarisbank migrates entire infrastructure to AWS cloud
Banking-as-a-service (BaaS) provider, Solarisbank, has migrated the entirety of its core banking systems, products and databases into the cloud.
The bank, which claims to be the first in Germany to go all-cloud, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The migration from the on-premise data-centre to the AWS cloud, was completed “within one year”, going live in November.
Solarisbank offers financial services to third parties through a piggyback on its German banking licence and application programming interface (API) services.
The bank says the migration is a “key part” of its growth towards becoming a platform “that ensures the best possible conditions for scale and automation”.
“Solarisbank is a tech company at heart,” says Hima Mandali, chief technology officer at the bank.
“By migrating our entire infrastructure to AWS, we have equipped ourselves to create exceptional banking experiences for our partners and paved the way for our European expansion.
“With the shift to a cloud-first mentality, we have also become nimbler in our product development.”
Soalrisbank claims to be the first bank in Germany to become an AWS Advanced Technology Partner. That status makes Solarisbank a “designated provider”, which it says “opens up opportunities for strategic partnerships”.
AWS has signed extensive cloud deals with financial services firms like Standard Chartered and Nasdaq in the past few months.
The company’s cloud technology also underpins Starling Bank in the UK, which claimed to be the first profitable challenger in the country last week.
