BMO picks AWS in push to become “cloud-first organisation”
BMO Financial Group (BMO) has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its new cloud provider as it looks to streamline its internal business processes and become a “cloud-first organisation”.
The Canadian bank says it will use AWS to modernise its banking platforms and build new digital financial services applications.
BMO is currently the eighth-largest bank in North America with over 12 million customers and $950 billion in assets.
The bank also plans to move strategic workloads to AWS that support its retail and commercial banking, investment banking and wealth management operations.
It will migrate its online and mobile banking applications to AWS to further push cloud adoption within the company, including creating a consolidated data lake, adopting serverless architecture and deploying advanced capabilities like high-performance computing and machine learning.
AWS will also be utilised to provide a more customer-centric experience for BMO’s call centre as well as to support remote working capabilities for employees.
BMO will also launch a hands-on cloud skills training program for its non-technical and IT employees.
“We continue to make bold moves at BMO to accelerate our digital transformation,” says Steve Tennyson, chief technology and operations officer at BMO Financial Group.
“AWS gives us the reliable global infrastructure we need to rapidly scale our business, as well as the comprehensive set of cloud capabilities to move faster and expand the use of analytics, machine learning and high-performance computing across our entire operation.”
