Swift hires new CTO in former Standard Chartered CISO Cheri McGuire
Swift has announced the appointment of its new chief technology officer, Cheri McGuire.
McGuire will be based in Manassas, Virginia
McGuire has joined the firm’s executive committee and will report directly to CEO Javier Pérez-Tasso.
Swift says the appointment comes at a time of “ambitious transformation” as the network continues a strategy of rolling out instant transactions across its participants.
McGuire previously worked as group chief information security officer at Standard Chartered bank, a position she held for three years.
Prior to her time at Standard Chartered, she led cybersecurity policy and programmes at Microsoft and security vendor Symantec.
McGuire also worked as a director of the National Cybersecurity Division and US Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) within the US Department of Homeland Security.
Swift CEO Pérez-Tasso says he was “immediately impressed both by [McGuire’s] extensive knowledge in the cyber domain, [and] also her experience and strategic understanding of technology transformation.”
Earlier this month, Swift launched its new low-value payment service, Swift Go.
The network says Swift Go can send “fast, predictable, highly secure, and competitively priced” payments “anywhere in the world”.
Seven major banks are already live with Swift Go, including BBVA, BNY Mellon, DNB, Sber, Société Générale, and UniCredit.
