FinTech Futures Jobs: Three exciting open roles at OakNorth to apply for
If you’re looking for a new job at the moment, then we have some great news.
At this time of year, the job market is booming with amazing opportunities for people to apply for.
Take OakNorth as an example. The UK bank for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is actively hiring at the moment, meaning there’s no better time to dust off that CV and cover letter and click apply…
SMEs are one of the biggest drivers of growth and innovation in economies all over the world. Despite these companies being a powerful force in the economy, many SMEs find it difficult to raise capital during critical stages of their company growth.
Traditional commercial lending is optimised to make loans that are either too small to be effective or too large and expensive to be practical. At OakNorth, their mission is to help lenders fill this gap which they refer to as the “Missing Middle”.
The DevOps Engineer role will require you to have experience of infrastructure and release automation in a continuous integration/continuous delivery framework.
You should have a good practical knowledge of what works and what doesn’t and work well with devs and client stakeholders to ensure mutually excellent outcomes. By the time you say a release is good to go, or infra is ready to ship for a client, it’s rock solid.
You will need to work with counterparts at clients to understand their needs and ensure the company’s infrastructure works for them. You will be trustworthy in a situation with a high degree of self-management.
What does success look like? The ideal candidate will need between four and seven years of experience. You will have worked in a start-up and can be flexible. Deep Unix/Linux experience is important, along with familiarity with Bash and Python.
Working experience of AWS is key, however other providers like Azure, Alibaba, and GCP are not required.
Senior Tech Recruiter, OakNorth
As a Senior Tech Recruiter, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle recruitment for all technical hiring: engineers (full stack, front-end, back-end), product management, and product designers.
You will partner with hiring managers and senior stakeholders in the business. This is a highly visible, high impact role, where you will have the accountability to innovate and scale yourself.
You will own the full recruitment lifecycle for all engineering roles across ONAI, OakNorth, and globally, while also owning job descriptions and scorecards for all engineering roles.
You will source candidates proactively, utilising a variety of means including, but not limited to: LinkedIn, GitHub, Meetups, Stack Overflow, HackerRank, Kaggle, university alumni networks, and employee referrals. You will utilise Lever to track applicant flow, schedule interviews, capture feedback, and ensure a tightly synchronised candidate interview experience.
The successful candidate will have experience recruiting against a broad spectrum of engineering and related roles. You will need a familiarity with cutting-edge technologies and know top hunting grounds for associated talent.
You will be highly articulate and a good listener; possessing an appreciation of how to attract and entice a largely intractable and oft-contacted population of engineers.
Director/Senior Manager of Product Design, OakNorth
In this role, you’ll be involved at every stage of design work – from defining and developing early product prototypes to executing crisp visual designs.
This is a cross-functional and problem-solving role. You will work closely with customers, product, and engineering to ensure the company is listening to customers and solving their problems in the best possible way.
You should be customer obsessed – you constantly think about the user, their needs, their challenges, their wish list. The ideal candidate will be passionate, proactive, collaborative, and an empathetic team player who is comfortable collaborating both in person and virtually with remote teams.
You should be someone who encourages, coaches, and offers constructive feedback to help people realise their full potential.
You’ll need four to six years of experience building consumer or enterprise software applications, along with experience coaching junior product designers. You will have strong interaction and visual design skills as well as experience building iterative prototypes to test ideas with customers quickly.
Experience presenting to and influencing people, from other designers to product managers, engineers, and executive management, is important.
