Cross-border payments giant Wise to hire 150 new staff in Singapore
Money transfer firm Wise intends to increase its presence in Singapore by hiring 150 new employees over the next year.
Wise says it will hire across engineering, product development, design, analytics, compliance, payments and other operations to drive product development and expansion in APAC and around the world.
The decision to expand in Singapore follows the opening of a new, larger APAC regional hub in the country.
Wise, formerly TransferWise, claims to be one of the first non-bank financial institutions to integrate with Singapore’s real-time payments system FAST.
The firm has been expanding its offering in the region, most recently launching low-cost and fast transfers from India, and the Wise Account and debit card in Malaysia.
Wise CEO and co-founder Kristo Käärmann says the company’s Singapore office has “grown into a key hub for us”.
“As our APAC hub, Singapore serves as an important base for us as we continue to invest in making our mission 一 to make money work without borders 一 a reality for more people and businesses here and around the world,” he adds.
Singapore Economic Development Board managing director Jacqueline Poh says: “Wise’s expanding presence here as part of our thriving fintech ecosystem is well aligned with our mission to build an innovation-driven economy in Singapore.”
The firm claims 12 million customers and processes more than £6 billion in cross-border transactions every month.
