Fronted appoints new CTO as co-founder Simon Vans-Colina joins Singapore’s BigPay
Fronted, a London-based fintech start-up that provides credit to help renters afford deposits up front, has promoted lead software engineer Jonathan Kim to the role of chief technology officer (CTO).
Now former Fronted CTO Simon Vans-Colina, who founded the company with Jamie Campbell and Anthony Mann, is moving to Singapore, where he will join financial services company BigPay.
Vans-Colina will be staying on at Fronted as a founder advisor.
BigPay provides payments, international transfers, credit, micro-insurance and smart budgeting to drive sustainable change for consumers and businesses across Southeast Asia.
Vans-Colina writes on Twitter that he has joined BigPay in order to build “an inclusive financial system” that rivals what’s available from Nubank, Wise, Monzo, Cashapp or Revolut for the billions of people that live in the Asia-Pacific region.
Vans-Colina was part of the initial team that built UK challenger Monzo. He says part of the motivation behind the move from London to Singapore is to be closer to his and his partner’s family.
Fronted was founded in 2019 and took part in the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) regulatory sandbox in 2020.
The UK start-up helps renters finance their rental deposits. Its credit product is designed to finance deposits directly.
Fronted says it can lend more cheaply at a lesser risk compared to players already tapping the rental market with insurance-based offerings.
