Charity donation app Toucan acquires fellow start-up DonatePal
UK charitable giving fintech Toucan has acquired donation app DonatePal for an undisclosed sum.
DonatePal co-founder Zishan Sheikh will also join Toucan as a board advisor as the firm looks to expand its user base and “unlock dormant millennial donors”.
Toucan CEO Matt Crate says: “Zishan shares our desire to help charities grow in a time where they are struggling, as well as focusing on the user experience of our app.”
Founded in 2019 by Zishan and his brother Umar, DonatePal streamlines the numerous donations to multiple charities that are customary in the lead up to and during Ramadan, automatically splitting a one-off donation between the user’s chosen charities.
Writing on LinkedIn, Crate adds: “DonatePal’s expertise in servicing Islamic-based charities will enable us to provide daily donation services throughout Ramadan.”
Zishan says he was attracted to Toucan’s giving portfolio feature as donors are often passionate about more than one charity or cause.
“We have seen a big shift in buying, working and travelling habits in the last few years. As a result, some of the major industries have seen a significant digital transformation. The charitable giving industry is yet to catch up,” he says.
