Flywire acquires Aussie education paytech Cohort Go
Flywire, a global payments enabler and software firm, has completed the acquisition of Cohort Go, an international education payments provider, for an undisclosed sum.
The move follows Flywire’s acquisition of UK education paytech WPM for an undisclosed sum in December last year.
The acquisition will help build out Flywire’s existing education business and accelerate the growth of its team as it looks to further invest in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, which the firm says is a “key geographic focus”.
Based in Brisbane, Australia, Cohort Go provides international students with the ability to make cross-border tuition payments via international agents through its platform.
“Recruiting agencies play a critical role in the international student journey by assisting students in finding placements in higher educational and other institutions,” says Mike Massaro, CEO of Flywire.
“Cohort Go has been prominent in this space, with a network of over 1,000 agent partnerships, including some of the most prestigious student recruitment agencies in the world.”
Founded in 2012, Cohort Go claims its platform helps “reduce costs, increase choice and improve productivity”.
Flywire says Cohort Go’s focus on APAC and its additional financial services – such as enabling students to pay for and save on health insurance – add value to the acquisition.
Headquartered in Boston, USA, Flywire claims to have over 2,700 clients across education, healthcare and travel verticals, as well as in B2B industries. The firm processes numerous payment methods in more than 140 currencies across 240+ countries.
