Uber partners Mastercard, Marqeta to launch new card offering for drivers
Ride-hailing and delivery firm Uber has partnered with card-issuing platform Marqeta, payments giant Mastercard and fintech Branch to launch a new loyalty and payments card for its drivers.
Designed for both Uber drivers and couriers, the Uber Pro Card will help drivers save on fuel, fees and other associated expenses, with earnings automatically deposited into a business checking account powered by Branch.
Through the Uber Pro Card app, drivers can track earnings, transfer money to other bank accounts and manage savings. The card will also be available via mobile wallets and enable contactless payments.
It will also offer custom perks including up to 10% cashback on fuel and 12% on electric vehicle (EV) charging costs (once a driver achieves Diamond status as an Uber Pro driver), which is automatically deposited to drivers’ accounts after each trip – free of charge.
Andrew Macdonald, senior vice president, mobility and business operation at Uber, says: “The new Uber Pro Card will allow drivers to take home more of what they earn.”
Additional features include the ability to see how much a driver will earn from a potential ride, as well as the destination, before accepting a trip, and a back-up balance providing access to up to $150 in emergencies.
