Investment app Freetrade appoints Shahid Naveed as CTO
Freetrade, a UK-based fintech that is “on a mission to get everyone investing”, has appointed Shahid Naveed as chief technology officer (CTO).
Naveed has 20+ years of experience in the tech space and joins from Auction Technology Group, an operator of marketplaces for curated online auctions, where he was VP of engineering. Prior to that, he was the technical leader for Amazon Video’s Digital Store team, responsible for overseeing the development of Amazon Video’s ownership systems globally.
He will be based in Freetrade’s London office, overseeing the firm’s global engineering team, which includes an established office in Brisbane, Australia.
The appointment follows recent senior hires in Freetrade’s engineering team, including head of engineering, Tibor Kiss, who joined from US broker-dealer Alpaca, and who is currently establishing a new engineering team in Budapest, Hungary (where he is based).
Freetrade CEO and founder Adam Dodds says Naveed “brings a wealth of technical knowledge and leadership experience” to the CTO role.
“He’s able to dive deep into the details, while also setting out a clear strategy to lead our engineering team,” Dodds adds.
“I’ve been impressed with the grit that our technical teams have demonstrated throughout this challenging market environment. We’ve shown as a company that we have what it takes to continue to grow and thrive.”
Launched in 2019, Freetrade’s investment app is used by 1.4 million people, according to the company, “making it one of the largest retail brokers in the UK”.
This year, the start-up has raised £32 million from existing institutional investors and via crowdfunding.
