MoneyGram expands Coinme partnership, launches in-app crypto service
P2P paytech MoneyGram, via its partnership with crypto exchange Coinme, has launched a new service enabling users to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrency via the MoneyGram app.
Users across nearly all US states and the District of Columbia now have the ability to trade and store Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC).
“We see crypto and digital currencies as another input and output option,” says Alex Holmes, MoneyGram chairman and CEO, adding the assets are the “next step in the evolution of MoneyGram”.
The new service builds upon MoneyGram’s existing partnership with Coinme, a licensed cryptocurrency exchange and API-driven crypto-as-a-service provider.
Since 2021, MoneyGram and Coinme have partnered to expand access to crypto by creating thousands of new locations in the US for consumers to buy and sell Bitcoin with cash.
MoneyGram expects to expand its selection of crypto coins as the company considers expansion to other markets in 2023, as regulations allow.
Earlier this year, crypto infrastructure provider Wyre partnered with MoneyGram to allow users to convert their digital assets directly into cash.
