BharatPe CEO Suhail Sameer steps down
Indian fintech BharatPe’s CEO Suhail Sameer has stepped down from the role, with current chief financial officer (CFO) Nalin Negi appointed as interim CEO.
In a statement, BharatPe says that Sameer will “transition” from CEO to strategic advisor on 7 January 2023. Negi will remain as interim CEO until the company finds a replacement for Sameer, it says.
“This will ensure a smooth transition for current CFO, Nalin Negi, who has been appointed interim CEO to partner with senior executives to bolster execution in all phases of the company’s business,” the firm adds.
Sameer joined BharatPe in August 2020 and had been leading the company since its co-founder Ashneer Grover was ousted last year over alleged financial misappropriation.
Negi joined BharatPe as its CFO in August 2022, bringing over 28 years of banking and financial experience to the role, having worked for companies including GE Capital and SBI Card.
In recent months, BharatPe has seen a number of top executives leave the firm, including its chief technology officer and chief product officer for lending and consumer products, among others.
Founded in 2018, the New Delhi-based firm secured unicorn status in August 2021 after raising $370 million in a Series E funding round led by Tiger Global.
