Marqeta appoints Simon Khalaf as new CEO
Global card issuing platform Marqeta has appointed Simon Khalaf as its new CEO, effective 31 January 2023.
Khalaf joined Marqeta in June as chief product officer (CPO) and will be replacing Marqeta founder, chair and current CEO Jason Gardner, who will be moving to the role of executive chairman.
Khalaf most recently served as CEO of Flurry, before it was acquired by Yahoo. He has also held senior roles at Twilio, Verizon, Yahoo and Novell.
“Simon’s diverse experience leading companies over a long career, the strong customer orientation and product vision he has shown in his time at Marqeta thus far, and his ability to build great teams, make him the right person to lead Marqeta into the next chapter,” Gardner says.
Marqeta has also appointed ex-Google executive Todd Pollak as its new chief revenue officer (CRO).
Pollak brings more than 25 years of go-to-market and sales experience to his new role, having previously worked at Ancestry as chief commercial officer (CCO). Before that, he spent 13 years at Google serving as managing director in the financial and retail sectors.
Marqeta provides a cloud-based payment infrastructure, enabling customers to launch and manage their own card programmes, issue cards and authorise and settle payment transactions. The firm is headquartered in California and operates in 40 countries globally.
