MoonPay names former Coinbase exec Asiff Hirji as new president
Crypto payments infrastructure provider MoonPay has appointed former Coinbase chief operating officer (COO) Asiff Hirji as its new president.
According to Bloomberg, Hirji assumed the role earlier this month, joining from blockchain financial services firm Figure Technologies where he served as president.
Hirji, who was president as well as COO of crypto exchange Coinbase between 2017 and 2019, intends to push on with the company’s recently broadened non-fungible token (NFT) strategy.
He believes these assets will regain some of their popularity thanks to their ability to connect artists and entertainment brands with fans.
“The regulatory environment is going to prevent the breakthrough use case from being in financial services,” Hirji tells Bloomberg. “It’s going to be in culture.”
At Coinbase, Hirji scaled the firm to more than $1 billion in revenues, raised $300 million at an $8 billion valuation and its headcount expanded by nearly 4x during his tenure.
Hirji served as a board member at Brazilian challenger Nubank between 2019 and 2022. He also spent eight years as director and board chair at Denmark’s Saxo Bank, until 2018.
