Open banking fintech Tarabut Gateway appoints new VP of engineering
Dubai-based open banking fintech Tarabut Gateway has appointed Derek Lakin as its new vice president of engineering.
Lakin boasts more than 20 years’ worth of experience in the software industry and has previously worked at Meta, Skype and Skyscanner.
At Facebook parent Meta, Lakin worked in a leadership role within the firm’s advertising division in the UK and later at the firm’s company headquarters in California.
At Skype and Skyscanner, he led engineering teams to develop new applications and improve existing software services, focusing on user experience and scaling cloud-native systems.
Tarabut Gateway has also named Oussama Bouhcine as vice president of customer success and services.
Bouhcine is a “seasoned expert” in B2B customer success management, the fintech says, and spent five years at tech titan Microsoft, where he managed multi-million-dollar projects with major corporate clients.
Tarabut Gateway CEO Abdulla Almoayed says the pair bring “valuable experience” and “formidable track records” to the firm as it looks to strengthen its presence in key markets such as Saudi Arabia and expand into new geographies.
Launched in 2019 in Bahrain, the start-up eventually moved its main office to the UAE. The firm offers a universal banking API to connect banks and fintechs to what it calls “customised financial services”.
