Varo Bank appoints Wook Chung as chief product officer
US challenger Varo Bank has appointed Wook Chung as its new chief product officer (CPO), effective immediately.
In his new role, Chung will be tasked with leading Varo’s product development and strategy initiatives. He will also be in charge of Varo Tech, the innovation engine of the company which brings together product, technology, data and design.
In a career spanning two decades, Chung has held several senior roles at major tech companies including Facebook, Twitter, Samsung, Google and Microsoft.
Chung most recently served as vice president of product, design and engineering at SoFi, where he managed in-app and online product experiences, with a focus on growth, risk and fraud.
Commenting on his new role at Varo, Chung says he will “continue to create, implement, and scale crucial offerings that allow consumers to build financial resilience and prosperity”.
In July, the San Francisco-based neobank laid off 75 members of staff in a restructuring aimed at achieving profitability.
