FinTech Futures Jobs: Four ways ChatGPT can help get you a fintech job
Generative AI is a category of artificial intelligence capable of generating new content based on existing data, and as you’re probably aware, it’s huge news right now.
ChatGPT is arguably the most talked about tool, having experienced a 2,633% surge in search interest since December 2022. Its user base is exploding too, with the chatbot gaining more than 100 million users within the first two months of its launch. As of this year, it has more than 13 million daily visitors.
This is just one of a growing number of generative AI tools. Microsoft’s Bing Chat allows users to interact with Bing’s search engine using natural language, and Google Bard is a new generative AI tool that performs text-based tasks.
DeepMind’s Alpha Code writes computer programmes; Jasper is an AI copywriter; and DALL-E, MidJourney and Stable Diffusion can all create realistic images and AI art. MidJourney was the tool used to create a recent viral photo of Pope Francis in an over-sized white puffer coat, which went viral last week.
Generative AI has entered the mainstream, with much credit going to ChatGPT’s easy-to-use interface, which can produce Python code as easily as it can a funny rhyme or poem.
When it comes to the workplace, ChatGPT-generated content is being trialled at a number of companies, and it has also passed Google’s Level 3 engineering coding interview.
That’s all well and good, but can it get you a new job in the fintech industry? Well, not quite, but it can certainly assist and help you speed up the process. Here’s how.
1. Research the industry
Before applying for a job, it’s essential to understand the current landscape. Familiarise yourself with the key players, companies, emerging trends and technologies that are disrupting the traditional financial services industry. ChatGPT can speed up this process for you by providing answers to prompts you supply.
2. Identify your skills
ChatGPT can also help you determine what skills you have that are relevant to the fintech industry, or for a specific role you want to apply for. Just paste in a job description and then ask it to match keywords from your current CV.
From specific technical skills such as programming, data analysis and cybersecurity to soft skills such as communication, leadership and problem-solving, it will highlight these for you.
3. Tailor your CV and cover letter
These days, customising your CV and cover letter for each role you apply for is essential. ChatGPT can assess your CV along with a job description to identify key skills. It can be used to create a useful template for a cover letter, which you can then finesse with relevant personal information.
4. Do interview prep
You can use ChatGPT to research the company and the role you’re applying for and ask it to provide you with sample sets of tailored interview questions. You can also prompt it to give you some clever questions you can ask when the dreaded “Do you have anything you want to ask us?” query arrives.
