Tarabut Gateway appoints Chun Ong as new chief operating officer
Dubai-based open banking fintech Tarabut Gateway has named Chun Ong as its new chief operating officer (COO).
Ong, who joins from UK digital mortgage lender Molo, where he spent three years as COO, also served as vice president of customer insights and operations at WorldRemit.
At UK fintech WorldRemit he set up, scaled and led the company’s business analytics and global operations teams. He has “extensive experience” in consulting, legal, operations, and business development, Tarabut says.
At Tarabut Gateway, Ong will lead the company’s operations as it continues to expand across multiple jurisdictions.
Tarabut Gateway CEO Abdulla Almoayed says Ong’s extensive experience in optimising operations and building out fintech teams on a global scale makes him “invaluable”.
Ong says that as COO he will be looking to “drive operational excellence, maintain the company’s collaborative culture and deliver innovative solutions”.
Launched in 2019 in Bahrain, the start-up eventually moved its main office to the UAE. The firm offers a universal banking API to connect banks and fintechs to what it calls “customised financial services”.
In February, Tarabut Gateway appointed Derek Lakin as its new vice president of engineering.
More recently, Middle Eastern crypto platform Rain partnered with Tarabut Gateway to streamline fiat-to-crypto transactions for customers in Bahrain.
