In a highly competitive European market, SumUp, a London-based provider of mobile POS card readers, has expanded its reach to 10 markets with recent product launches in Belgium, France and Portugal. SumUp enables merchants to accept debit and credit card payments using their smartphones and tablets as a POS device. SumUp is capable of processing MasterCard and Visa payments in all of the countries in which it operates. Businesses sign up for SumUp service through its app, which is available for iOS and Android, or through the company’s Website, and receive native-language assistance from the SumUp support team.
“We have now brought pay-as-you-go card payments to the 10 central European economies, and we will continue to innovate to ensure that we maintain our position as the mobile point-of-sale company with the largest international footprint,” said SumUp CEO Daniel Klein.
SumUp launched in the U.K., Ireland, Germany and Austria in August, and expanded to Italy, Spain and the Netherlands last month. In the battle for European market share, SumUp joins small startups like payleven and Munich’s payworks, U.K.-based mPowa, Stockholm’s iZettle and British mobile carrier O2, among others.
