People on the Move: Jonathan J. Judge, First Data (January 2013)
Jan. 14, 2013
First Data Corp.’s CEO Jonathan J. Judge plans to step down from the company for health reasons, the company said. First Data will conduct a search for a new CEO and Judge will maintain his positions as CEO and board member until a replacement is found, but no later than March 31, the company said.
Judge, who was named CEO in 2010, “didn’t anticipate such an early retirement,” he said, adding that plans “needed to be changed for the benefit of my health.” Judge previously served as president and CEO at Paychex Inc., and prior to that he served as CEO for software firm Crystal Decisions. Judge spent the first 26 years of his business career at IBM.
“We appreciate all the results Jon has accomplished at First Data,” said Joe Forehand, First Data’s board chairman, noting that over the last eight quarters under Judge’s leadership, First Data’s “EBITDA has grown significantly” and the company has introduced a variety of new products. “We will miss Jon’s leadership and wish him well in his recovery,” Forehand said.
