MICROS Systems Inc. and PayPal Inc. this week announced a strategic global collaboration that will pave the way for thousands of restaurants and other hospitality industry businesses using MICROS’s payment platforms to add PayPal as a POS and mobile app payment option. MICROS, used in more than half a million businesses around the world, plans a “mass scale” deployment of PayPal in the coming months, according to Michael L. Russo, the company’s chief technology officer for food and beverage. MICROS last year said it integrated the Isis SmartTap mobile commerce application into one of its core POS platforms.
PayPal also this week inked a deal with Mercury Payment Systems LLC enabling Mercury’s network of POS software developers and hardware resellers to add PayPal to merchants’ POS offerings. Durango, Colo.-based Mercury will supply its developers, which number more than 500, with a toolkit to add PayPal as an option on countertop devices and PayPal will be bundled into Mercury’s core offerings so participating merchants’ customers can pay using PayPal via a linked card or the PayPal mobile app.
