Jamba Juice to Sweeten Deal for Isis Adoption (Oct. 16, 2013)
With the Isis digital wallet set to launch nationwide later this year, the companies behind the wallet are hoping a special launch promotion will sweeten the proposition for consumer adoption. Jamba Juice has announced it will offer a free smoothie or juice to the first million customers who use Isis at participating U.S. locations. Beyond the giveaway, Jamba Juice is jumping fully on board with Isis’ NFC-based payment platform. “We’re rolling out NFC terminals with Isis’ proprietary SmartTap technology at Jamba Juice locations nationwide, allowing customers to redeem and pay for products with one tap,” said James White, CEO, Jamba Juice. The smoothie purveyor was one of the major retailers to participate in Isis’ test launches in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas, last year.
Isis—a joint venture between AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless—is expected to begin rolling out nationally sometime later this year, though no specific date has been set. Widespread merchant participation is among the key assets being touted by Isis, which can be accepted at any retailer equipped with NFC payment systems, as it faces off with a number of other digital wallets.
But Jamba Juice hasn’t cast in its lot with Isis alone. The company also has been among the retailers at the forefront of PayPal’s recent efforts to move into brick-and-mortar payments, enabling customers to order-ahead and pay at POS using PayPal’s mobile app.
