U.S. Bank Focuses on New Contour Prepaid GPR Card (Nov. 7, 2013)
U.S. Bank, lead bank of U.S. Bancorp and one of the first big banks to roll out a prepaid GPR card, this week has launched the Visa-branded U.S. Bank Contour Card.
“General purpose reloadable cards appeal to a broad demographic, from customers who have bank accounts and want to segregate certain types of spending to people who, for whatever reason, don’t have bank accounts and don’t want to rely strictly on cash,” Whitney Bright, market leader for consumer prepaid at U.S. Bank, tells Paybefore. “Contour offers customers the safety and convenience of being able to spend with a card and budget or track expenses online through a consolidated dashboard view.”
Cardholders can open up to five additional sub-accounts and a joint account that can be linked to their primary accounts, enabling easy transfer of funds between cards. These additional cards, according to U.S. Bank, can be a convenient method of giving money to a teenager, caregiver or household contractor, or to separate expenses, such as groceries or bills. The card’s free services and fee schedule can be found here.
In November 2011, U.S. Bank rolled out its Visa Convenient Cash Card to all U.S. Bank branches across the U.S. The Contour Card essentially replaces the Convenient Cash Card as well as the U.S. Bank Visa Buxx Card, a prepaid product for teens.
“Customers who have Convenient Cash and Visa Buxx will be able to continue to use those cards, however we are now only selling Contour in our branches and online,” Bright says.
