Boxer Ramirez Gets Behind New Prepaid Discover Card (Nov. 11, 2013)
Olympic boxer José Carlos Ramirez is lending his name and image to a new prepaid card from Global Payout Inc. The JC Ramirez Prepaid Discover Card has no minimum balance fees and offers instant account alerts via text message or email as well as a special security feature that enables a cardholder to turn the card “off” or “on” online or by phone. When the card is turned “off,” funds cannot be accessed by anyone, helping to prevent fraudulent use. Cardholders also can receive up to four companion cards, which can be restricted for use by setting parameters on spending, including dollar amount and transaction type. The card is issued by TAB Bank of Ogden, Utah.
Avenal, Calif.-born Ramirez is a Mexican-American lightweight boxer who represented the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympics. The 21-year-old Ramirez has since turned professional and holds a 7-0 record after his latest victory, a win by knockout on Saturday in Fresno, Calif. Ramirez plans to contribute a portion of the revenue he earns from the card to American Medical Overseas Relief (AMOR) and to serve as an ambassador to increase awareness of the organization’s mission to improve the health of people in impoverished areas.
