MCX Adds Platform Provider Paydiant and Burger Chain Wendy’s (Feb. 13, 2014)
Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), the Coppell, Texas-based, retailer-led mobile payment consortium founded in 2012, is adding Paydiant’s cloud-based platform to its mobile commerce infrastructure. Wellesley, Mass.-based Paydiant’s technology enables MCX member merchants to use existing POS and payment terminals, and includes an application programming interface (API) so merchants can integrate mobile wallet capabilities and value-added services into their own branded iPhone and Android applications, according to an announcement.
MCX also announced that Wendy’s, one of the largest quick-service restaurants, and Acme Fresh Market, a regional grocery store chain in Northeast Ohio, are the latest merchants to become MCX merchant members.
“Paydiant adds unique mobile wallet capabilities and proven retail experience that seamlessly complement MCX’s existing technology platform,” said MCX CEO Dekkers Davidson. MCX announced last summer that Jacksonville, Fla.-based payments technology provider FIS would provide the payments processing platform, including transaction routing and settlement.
MCX merchants represent more than 70 brands with 110,000 locations that process more than $1 trillion in payments, annually, according to the group that includes 7-Eleven, Best Buy Co., Target Corp. and Wal-Mart Stores. Last December, MCX announced ExxonMobil, Rite Aid Corp., Giant Eagle and Kum & Go had joined the fold.
