Merchants Get another Extension in Debit Interchange Case (July 17, 2014)
The merchant plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the Federal Reserve Board of Governors have been granted another extension to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case. The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), one of the lead plaintiffs in the suit, NACS, et al v. Board of Governors of The Federal Reserve System, has been given more time by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to challenge the appellate court’s March decision reversing a lower court’s ruling that the Fed set too high a limit on debit card interchange fees in 2011. The extension moves the deadline to August 18, nearly a month after the previous deadline of July 21. This is the second extension the appeals court has granted the merchant plaintiffs, whose original deadline to file a petition to the Supreme Court was June 19.
