Cardtronics/Allpoint Network Sign Deals in India, U.K. (Sept. 4, 2014)
Allpoint Network, an affiliate of Cardtronics Inc., and travel services company Thomas Cook of India have announced a partnership giving users of Thomas Cook India’s multicurrency Borderless Prepaid Card surcharge-free access to Allpoint’s network of more than 55,000 ATMs in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.K. and Australia. Indian travelers prefer the safety and convenience of cashless travel, but high ATM transaction costs were seen as a deterrent, according to Thomas Cook India‘s internal customer research. The Allpoint deal makes Thomas Cook India the first card issuer in India to offer its cardholders surcharge-free ATM access when traveling overseas, according to the travel services company.
In related news, Cardtronics this week announced its U.K.-based business is entering into a seven-year exclusive agreement to operate approximately 1,800 ATMs in Co-Operative Food Stores across the U.K., and has the right to install and operate ATMs at new locations and at existing stores currently without an ATM. Cardtronics also said it’s acquiring Sunwin Services Group, a subsidiary of the Co-Operative group, which provides secure cash logistics and ATM maintenance to Co-op Food Stores.
