Kalixa, Millicom Form JV to Serve Africa and Latin America (Sept. 17, 2014)
Luxembourg-based telecom Millicom and Kalixa, a London-based payments service provider and 2014 Paybefore Awards Europe winner, have created a joint venture to develop a payments service provider to operate in Africa and Latin America, with an initial rollout in Colombia and Brazil later this year, according to an announcement. The JV will offer payment acceptance services for businesses and consumers, including payment gateway and POS solutions for merchants, and one-click payment and e-wallet capabilities for online customers. The JV will benefit from Millicom’s existing telecom infrastructure in 14 countries and online partnerships in 31 countries, and Kalixa’s experience of providing payment services, including issuing, acquiring and acceptance solutions, to more than 8,000 merchants in 100 markets.
