Softcard Users Can Pay at McDonald’s Restaurant, Drive-Thru (Nov. 3, 2014)
Softcard announced a deal with QSR giant McDonald’s that adds 14,000 more U.S. locations to the mobile wallet’s acceptance network. Users now can tap their handsets to pay at McDonald’s registers in the restaurant as well as in the drive-thru lane. The national rollout is the result of a successful pilot that began in 2013, and the launch is the largest deployment of NFC-based m-commerce at the drive-thru, according to an announcement.
Softcard announced last month another large QSR deal—26,000-plus SUBWAY locations in the U.S. are installing Softcard-branded NFC payment terminals. The mobile wallet also expanded its presence to the self-serve laundry business recently, enabling customers to tap and pay at certain laundry machines, as well as receive discounts. Softcard, formerly Isis Wallet, is the NFC-based mobile payment initiative backed by AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile.
