InComm Deal Expands PayPal’s Digital Offerings (Nov. 17, 2014)
In a holiday season that’s poised for more mobile searching and shopping, prepaid product and technology provider InComm announced that PayPal is using the InComm Digital Solutions (IDS) platform to support PayPal’s digital gifts services, enabling PayPal to expand the number of leading retailers’ gift cards it sells on the PayPal Digital Gifts store and on the eBay marketplace. In addition to a wider selection of gift cards, the partnership provides PayPal customers with a seamless customer experience where they quickly are able to purchase and send digital gift cards for themselves or others, and they’ll have access to future mobile payment capabilities, according to an announcement. Merchants that partner with IDS, PayPal and eBay, have exposure to millions of customers.
“Consumers are increasingly adopting digital cards for gifts and self-use and looking to easily purchase and store these cards on their mobile devices,” said Mike Fletcher, IDS general manager. “Collaborating with PayPal is helping drive adoption of mobile payments by making it easier than ever for consumers to do this, as well as empowering brands to capitalize on rising mobile sales and loyalty opportunities.”
The National Retail Federation’s annual survey recently indicated that 62 percent of consumers prefer a gift card as a holiday present over clothing (52.5 percent); books, CDs, DVDs or video games (43.1 percent); or electronics (34.6 percent). Also, consumers are more comfortable using mobile devices for researching gifts and shopping online, with nearly two-thirds (63.2 percent) of tablet owners planning to use their device to research and purchase holiday items.
