Cardpool, LevelUp Turn Gift Cards into Loyalty Credits (Nov. 25, 2014)
Gift card exchange Cardpool is partnering with LevelUp to make the most coveted gift—the gift card—more valuable by enabling LevelUp users to exchange unused and partially used gift cards for LevelUp credits at more than 14,000 participating merchants. LevelUp, a mobile loyalty and payment platform, has more than 1.5 million unique users of its mobile wallet.
“By partnering with Cardpool, we’re giving our mobile users the widest range of payment options and accessibility, while driving incremental commerce for merchants that accept LevelUp,” said Seth Priebatsch, LevelUp founder and CEO. For Cardpool, a subsidiary of Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc., this agreement provides a new channel for acquiring unused gift cards, introduces new customers to the benefits of Cardpool and delivers value for brand partners by getting their gift cards into the hands of consumers who will use them, according to an announcement. For a limited time, LevelUp is offering an additional $5 in credit to users when they complete their first gift card exchange through Cardpool for LevelUp credit.
The announcement follows LevelUp’s integration with Apple Passbook last week. LevelUp users have the option of storing a LevelUp card in Passbook or can opt to store merchant-specific cards. Within merchant-specific cards, customers are able to view any loyalty credit they have available or see how close they are to earning their next loyalty reward. Merchants soon will be able to customize the look and feel of their Passbook cards within LevelUp’s merchant dashboard, according to an announcement.
