CFPB Seeks Applicants for Committee Seats (Jan. 20, 2014)
The CFPB is accepting applications to fill seats on three separate committees. The CFPB announced the openings in a notice in the Federal Register late last week. There are 10 seats available on the agency’s Consumer Advisory Board, seven on the Community Bank Advisory Council and eight on the Credit Union Advisory Council. All seats are scheduled to become vacant in fall 2015. Appointments to the board are typically for three years, while council terms are for two years.
The CFPB is looking for candidates who are experts in consumer protection, community development, consumer finance, fair lending, civil rights and consumer financial products or services. Only employees of banks or thrifts with less than $10 billion in assets are eligible for the Community Bank Advisory Council, and only employees of credit unions with assets below that figure will be considered for the Credit Union Advisory Council.
Applications are due by Feb. 28, 2015, and the CFPB expects to announce the new members in August. More information about application guidelines and the responsibilities of advisory group members is available in the Federal Register notice. Interested applicants also can download an application from the CFPB’s Website here.
