InstaMed Integrates Apple Pay for Consumer Health Care Payments (April 16, 2015)
Apple Pay is expanding its reach to the health care sector, where InstaMed has integrated the mobile payments service as an option for consumers making payments to hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices and insurance companies. The move by InstaMed, a 2014 Paybefore Awards winner, enables its business partners in the health care industry to accept Apple Pay at NFC-enabled POS devices and within the app. Examples include office co-pays for medical services, and payments for other other types of services and procedures, along with paying regular insurance premiums through the insurer’s mobile app, InstaMed said.
Philadelphia-based InstaMed linked with Apple to improve convenience for its clients and for consumers, according to InstaMed’s chief technology officer and co-founder. “Approximately 20 percent of consumers have unpaid health care bills as a result of confusion in the payments process,” he said, noting that the expansion of high-deductible health plans is driving the need to simplify consumer health care payments.
