N.Y. and Texas AGs Request RadioShack to Notify Gift Card Holders
Attorney generals in New York and Texas requested that a Delaware bankruptcy court order RadioShack to contact holders of unredeemed RadioShack gift cards in order to alert them to their rights in the retailer’s bankruptcy proceedings. The request comes after the retailer admitted that it had names and addresses for at least some of the customers left holding its gift cards, with unused funds of $46 million, when it declared bankruptcy. If approved, the request would require RadioShack to send notices for 2.9 million cards. The request comes as RadioShack also faces a claim against its bankruptcy estate from a putative class of consumers holding the retailer’s unused gift cards who claim they were not provided appropriate notice of the bar date to file their claims.
