Urban FT, Sprint to Launch Revamped Digital Wallet (Sept. 17, 2015)
Starting in January 2016, Sprint’s 57 million customers will have access to a revamped digital wallet, Sprint Money Express, through a joint initiative between the telecom and Urban FT, a provider of white-label digital banking apps.
The new version of Sprint Money Express has been designed to give Sprint customers “best-in-class” banking functionality, social features and targeted deals in one app, according to an announcement. Sprint Money Express will enable customers to sign up for a Sprint-branded prepaid MasterCard, include other cards and accounts in one digital wallet, manage their finances and budgets, take advantage of local deals and monitor their mobile phone activity. Urban FT will continue to work with Sprint on additional features, including NFC payments and carrier-billing options, which are expected to be available in the second half of 2016, according to Mark Kilpatrick, Urban FT’s chief product officer.
Earlier this month, Urban FT completed its acquisition of Wipit Inc., which provided digital wallet solutions to the mobile virtual network operator market, most notably Sprint, Boost Mobile and Pinsight Media. Wipit received two Paybefore Awards this year in the One to Watch and Gotta-Have Mobile App categories.
