PayNearMe, 7-Eleven Offer Bill Pay Services (Sept. 23, 2015)
Financial services provider PayNearMe has partnered with 7-Eleven Inc. to launch the PayNearMe Bill Pay app, enabling consumers in the U.S. to pay more than 17,000 national and local billers, such as cable companies, utilities providers and insurance companies, with cash using a barcode scan at participating 7-Eleven stores.
Consumers can begin paying bills by downloading the PayNearMe Bill Pay app or 7-Eleven Bill Pay Operated by PayNearMe app. Both apps feature the same national and regional billers. “Other retailers have the option to partner with PayNearMe as 7-Eleven did, to create a co-branded app that they can offer exclusively to their customers,” a company spokesperson tells Paybefore. “This enables retailers to provide additional value to customers, increase in-store traffic and attract new customer segments. The app’s cloud-based technology gives retailers the ability to implement PayNearMe with minimal change to their existing systems.”
Consumers create an account, add a bill by finding the biller’s name in the app, schedule a payment and a barcode is generated on the smartphone. At the store, consumers show the barcode to the cashier and provide the cash for payment. Consumers then receive a receipt as proof of payment.
A convenience fee applies, depending on the biller and the size of the payment; but the typical charge is approximately $1.99 per payment. Most payments are posted to the account within four business days, though many billers post payments the next business day, according to PayNearMe.
PayNearMe launched a similar program last month enabling the California Department of Child Support Services to accept cash payments at 7-Eleven stores nationwide. PayNearMe began working in the child support space by processing cash payments for the Nebraska Child Support Payment Center last year.
