Diebold Acquiring Wincor Nixdorf for $1.8 Billion (Nov. 23, 2015)
The payments world is contracting a bit more as U.S. ATM manufacturer Diebold is getting significantly larger, announcing its plans to acquire German-based Wincor Nixdorf for approximately $1.8 billion, or €1.7 billion, creating the largest global ATM supplier.
“The rate of change we see in our industry is unprecedented, and by leveraging innovative solutions and talent from both organizations we will have the scale, strength and flexibility to help our customers through their own business transformation,” said Diebold president and CEO at Andy W. Mattes. Diebold has approximately 16,000 employees worldwide, while Wincor Nixdorf boasts a workforce of around 9,000 people. The combined company will be named Diebold Nixdorf, with common shares publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The combined company will have registered offices in North Canton, Ohio, and will be operated from headquarters in North Canton and Paderborn, Germany.
Today’s announcement likely raised some eyebrows at NCR, which is part of the triumvirate of ATM providers. NCR today issued a press release it was chosen as the ATM provider of Banamex, one of Mexico’s largest financial institutions. NCR reports more than 550 million transactions daily in all of its business branches across retail, financial, travel, hospitality, telecom and technology and small business.
