Idaho Ag Dept. First to Launch NIC’s eGovExpress Digital Wallet (Dec. 23, 2015)
Idaho’s Department of Agriculture is the first government department to launch the eGovExpress digital wallet developed by Olathe, Kan.-based NIC Inc., provider of official government Web portals and digital government services for more than 3,500 federal, state and local government agencies. eGovExpress is an online, password-protected, PCI-compliant site that can be accessed through a smartphone’s browser, and enables consumers and businesses to make payments and store and manage payment data, such as credit, debit and GPR prepaid cards as well as electronic check information. By storing payment data, the wallet—which is a component of NIC’s payment processing platform, providing secure transaction processing for governments—expedites the payment process by eliminating the need to repeatedly enter account information. Customer information is encrypted and stored within NIC’s customer database, according to the company.
Regarding the Idaho Department of Agriculture rollout, consumers and businesses can use the eGovExpress wallet to pay for such necessities as pesticide registrations and weights and measure fees. The Idaho Department of Labor and Idaho State Tax Commission are scheduled to offer eGovExpress by March, according to Rich Steckler, director of marketing at Access Idaho, a subsidiary of NIC Inc. that manages the state’s Web portal. As more state departments adopt the wallet, consumers and businesses will be able to use their same accounts to pay for utility payments, license renewals and taxes, among other payments.
The Idaho Department of Agriculture is the first agency in the nation to go live with NIC’s eGovExpress digital wallet, but state governments nationwide plan to roll out the wallet to their state’s respective agencies, counties, cities and school districts in 2016, Steckler tells Pay News.
