ADP’s ALINE Payroll Card Integrates Apple Pay (Jan. 11, 2016)
ADP has announced that its ALINE Card, is integrated with Apple Pay, becoming one of the first prepaid cards in the mobile wallet. Workers using ALINE can add their payroll cards to the Apple Pay wallet on mobile devices, including Apple watches, to make purchases from participating merchants.
“Combining the convenience and accessibility of the ALINE Card with the security and mobility of Apple Pay offers our cardholders more flexible secure payment and shopping options,” says Gary Lott, division vice president and general manager at ADP. “We are proud and excited to be an early payroll card adopter of this innovative mobile payments service.”
Consumers using Apple Pay link their credit, debit or prepaid cards to the service. Instead of storing card numbers, Apple Pay produces a unique device account number that is encrypted and stored on the mobile device. Transactions are authorized via a one-time security code.
The ADP move follows news in December that users of the popular Dunkin’ Donuts payment and loyalty app can use Apple Pay to purchase, gift or reload virtual Dunkin’ Donuts Cards. The ALINE Card won a Paybefore Aware in 2013 for Best Third-Party Payroll Card Program and in 2014 for Outstanding Pay Solution. Prepaid issuers and program managers haven’t been as quick to join Apple Pay, likely because of the reported 0.15 percent, or 15 cents on a $100 transaction, issuers must pay to participate in Apple Pay.
