PayNearMe, 7-Eleven Offer Tax Payments at Retail
Cash bill payment specialist PayNearMe is giving taxpayers a new way to pay the IRS. The company’s new service enables users to make cash tax payments at nearly 7,000 U.S. 7-Eleven store locations via barcode scan. Customers obtain a barcode by visiting OfficialPayments.com—an online tax payment Web portal run by ACI Worldwide—and selecting the option to pay with cash. From there, users receive a PayNearMe barcode via email to print or display on a smartphone. Once the barcode is in hand, the taxpayer visits a participating 7-Eleven, where the clerk scans the barcode and then accepts cash payment of up to $1,000 per day (consumers can make up to two payments per tax period using the service). A receipt provides proof of transaction, and payments typically are posted within two business days. There is a $3.99 service fee for each transaction.
The service is the first of its kind to offer cash tax payments at convenience store locations, according to PayNearMe. “Customers appreciate when the organizations care enough to offer them payment options at convenient locations and the organizations are happy to automate traditionally time-consuming payment processes to enable payments 24 hours a day,” said Danny Shader, founder and CEO, PayNearMe. Founded in 2009, the Sunnyvale, Calif., company has steadily been building up its network of retail bill payment partners, which includes 7-Eleven, Family Dollar and ACE Cash Express stores. The company provides bill payment services for more than 17,000 national and local billers, including cable companies, utilities and insurance providers.
