RushCard Launches App Featuring Security, Pharmacy Discounts
After a tumultuous nearly year-long span in which UniRush LLC was making headlines stemming from a major service disruption to its RushCard GPR product last October, the company announced Aug. 29 positive news in the form of a new app it says has best-in-class security features and a pharmacy program providing discounted prescription medications.
The app includes a feature called Pause Protection, in which cardholders can disable the RushCard from making purchases if it’s misplaced or stolen. Another security measure in the app is a biometric feature, One Touch Access, enabling customers to access their accounts by placing their finger on the screen of their smartphones. The app, which is available on Google Android and Apple iOS platforms, also includes a pharmacy e-card, providing cardholders access to discounts on prescription drugs at Walmart stores.
“We’re thriving and finally we’re able to get back to the business of bringing new products and services to market that benefit our customer base,” UniRush CEO Ron Hynes said, according to The Wall Street Journal. Hynes, who was named a Paybefore 2014 Industry Achievement winner, added that the new features were in the works before he was named CEO in July, but that he accelerated their launch.
Last October, thousands of RushCard customers experienced problems accessing their funds for several days because of a technical glitch while UniRush switched processors. Following a deluge of customer complaints, RushCard co-founder Russell Simmons announced a four-month holiday from card fees, and the company said it would reimburse customers who experienced financial losses as a result of a service disruption. In May, UniRush agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit by paying up to $19 million plus $1.5 million for legal fees.
