People on the Move: Javier Santamaría, European Payments Council
The general assembly of the European Payments Council (EPC), a representative body of European payment service providers, has re-elected Javier Santamaría as its chairman, effective immediately and running for the next two years. Santamaría has chaired the EPC since June 2012, and has been a member since its creation in 2002. Formerly vice president at Bank Santander, he now will serve as the EPC’s first independent chair. In the role, Santamaría will lead the EPC’s board and general assembly and represent the council externally, in particular toward European institutions.
The upcoming two years the EPC plans to take an active role in the implementation of the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and the beginning of instant euro credit transfers in Europe, among other initiatives.
