Double downer for CBA banking Down Under
Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has been experiencing technical problems on its NetBank and CommBank apps over the weekend, according to announcements on its Twitter feed.
It seems that payments and transactions weren’t available, but the real issue is that customers couldn’t log in into the apps themselves.
The issue seems to have originated somewhere in the Visa payment infrastructure, according to its social media feed.
UPDATE: 10:32am. Working hard to fix issue that lies with some Visa credit cards and some payments in NetBank / CommBank app. MasterCard and CBA cards are ok. CBA merchant terminals accepting alternate forms of payments including non-Visa debit or credit cards.

Card payments and ATM withdrawals were still available – although for many these weren’t a possibility.
This same user reports that the crash went on for over five hours. According to the bank’s feed, it may have carried on for over ten hours.
Without the money in a linked account or a way to get to a branch (considering banks aren’t really open outside business hours), all of your suggestions are impossibilities. I realise there are things beyond your control but it’s been all day now

Although it may be completely unrelated, it is worth pointing out that the bank upgraded some of its card services just under a month ago – although the bank says these went unaffected.
Heads up! We’re upgrading our systems on Sunday, 22 July. Credit card, Debit Card & Travel Money Card accounts may not be available through NetBank/CommBank app 1-5am. Cardless Cash will be unavailable from 1.20-5am (AEST). Please plan ahead.

As of the time of writing, the bank is seeing a progressive improvement on the functioning of its affected services.
Update at 7:50pm. We’re seeing improvements for customers logging into NetBank and the CommBank app. Our teams are continuing to work on this issue. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused today and we thank you for your patience.

FinTech Futures reported on other very similar technical issues experienced by CBA back in April.
