Pay.UK exec Simon Lyons joins obconnect as chief strategy officer
Pay.UK executive Simon Lyons has left the firm to join UK-based open banking company obconnect as its chief strategy officer (CSO).
Lyons joined Pay.UK in October last year as its standards transformation lead, leading a piece of work between the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Pay.UK and the wider open banking ecosystem to address a “long-standing” legacy problem. He was also involved in delivering a solution for small and medium-sized business (SME) salaries.
In his new role at obconnect, Lyons will be tasked with expanding the firm’s “blue chip” client base and help the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) achieve its Confirmation of Payee goals in the UK.
“We will work with our partner PayPoint, to deliver solutions to help with access to cash and fraud prevention during the government’s assistance programmes within energy and local authorities,” Lyons adds.
In a career spanning more than two decades, Lyons served as the head of ecosystem management at Open Banking before joining Pay.UK. He has also worked at Slide, Conferma, Cashfac Technologies and The Co-operative Bank.
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Watford, UK, obconnect offers advice to banks on their open banking journey by means of products and consultancy services.
