Business banking fintech Moniepoint names Pawel Swiatek COO
African business banking platform Moniepoint (formerly known as TeamApt) has appointed Pawel Swiatek as its new chief operating officer (COO).
Swiatek joins Moniepoint from Capital One, where he served as managing vice president for over four years. There, he was responsible for the bank’s financial inclusion programme and helped develop the business’ data science systems to help underbanked populations in the US gain access to credit.
Prior to Capital One, Swiatek worked for hedge fund Bridgewater for 10 years as part of the management team, growing the firm from 150 employees to more than 2,000.
In his new role, Swiatek will be tasked with driving strategy at Moniepoint by building policies, tools, measurements and culture to enable the business to grow.
Working closely with CEO Tosin Eniolorunda and the senior management team, Moniepoint says Swiatek will work to help the firm “more accurately predict growth and key trends through a data-science led approach”.
“Since meeting Tosin last year, then visiting the Nigerian market, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Moniepoint and the huge potential it has to create genuine, meaningful change,” Swiatek says.
“The team has seen rapid growth over the past few years, and part of my role coming in will be to take over the day-to-day operational running of the business and enable us to more accurately predict growth as Moniepoint continues to scale and enter new markets.”
Launched in 2015 with its headquarters in London, UK, and offices in Nigeria, Kenya and the US, Moniepoint offers payments, banking, credit and business management tools to more than 600,000 businesses. It is currently Nigeria’s largest card payments operator with over $10 billion processed monthly.
