Vancouver’s capital markets regulator surveys fintech firms
The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) wants to serve the fintech firms in the state better.
The BCSC has published a new webpage that provides a primer to technology companies doing business in the capital markets space. The page also has a link to the BCSC 2017 Tech Survey, which attempts to understand the regulatory challenges faced by fintech companies operating in the region. The survey is open until 21st February 2017.
BCSC says the survey is part of its effort to consult with and collaborate with stakeholders in the market and will help determine how future regulations shape up.
“Our aim is to work with stakeholders to provide flexible and balanced regulation for innovative business models,” says Brenda Leong, chair and CEO, BCSC. “We also need to assess whether securities regulations are keeping pace with the evolving tech landscape.”
The regulator has also formed a dedicated tech team to help fintech companies understand prevailing securities laws better. The team can be reached via email and a toll-free number, both of which are available online.
